First Presidents Letter of 2025
First Presidents Letter of 2025
It’s been a busy start to the year!
New LED front entrance lights were replaced by a few volunteers, one being a retired electrician, they volunteered their time and work, which saved VECA quite a bit of money compared to the previous cost for similar work. The only cost to VECA this time was the materials.
The next agenda item was the second reading of the 2025 VECA Bylaws amendment. The quorum necessary for a vote on the amendment was met by the members in attendance. After ensuring that there were no further questions or concerns about the Bylaws or the amendment, which provides a practical working document as VECA moves forward, a motion to approve the amendment was made.
Current information about the damaged sign at the front entrance was given. The driver who was responsible was identified thanks to the accounts and video provided by witnesses. Shanette has begun the process of claiming a settlement from the driver’s insurance. She also is in the process of gathering estimates for replacement of the sign.
Our media director reminded us that there is an imposter page that members should be aware of. To be considerate to all who follow our page you will never see posts involving religion or politics. Our page is for information shared about our community and relevant topics to the area. The official public Facebook page for VECA is “Venice East Community VECA.”The private members-only Facebook group is called “VECA Members.” Everyone is free to follow who they want, this is just a reminder VECA only monitors this one Page and group.
We have decided meetings for now on a need basis and we can always call special meetings throughout the year if members volunteer to be, or to find speakers and make the necessary arrangements. If anyone would like to speak on a subject at the meeting please reach out to discuss it with us!
Our favorite Sarasota County Outreach Officer Cathy Duff provided information about calls to the sheriff’s office, none of which involved crimes committed.
The last agenda item was an update about activities sponsored by the Venice Gardens Civic Association, also known as their homeowner or community association. Venice East residents are welcome at those activities. Our residents can choose to belong to that association as well as VECA. Those who are interested can choose a membership level that suits their needs or can just pay for individual activities as required. The Venice Gardens-community Center is located on Shamrock Blvd. between Center Road and US 41. You can learn more about that organization on their Facebook page (Venice Gardens Civic Association), which includes a phone number (941-493-5743) and an email address (venicegardens406@gmail.com) for more information.
We look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting sometime in the fall! Enjoy your summer and keep checking here and the Facebook page for up to date information!
Thank you
Shanette VECA President
